Six villagers selected

PUDUKOTTAI: Six villagers of Pudukottai district have been selected for Fellow award instituted by Jamsetji Tata National Virtual Academy (NVA) for Rural Prosperity, in recognition of their social services and their efforts towards improving the lifestyle of villagers.
They are, Mekala Muthu, Onankudi village panchayat president in Arimalam block; K. Paramasivam, Athani village panchayat president in Aranthangi block; C.S. Vallal and R. Neela, both Block Project Coordinators of the Continuing Education Project in Karambakudi and Tiruvarankulam blocks respectively; and R. Anbalagan and V. Muthulakshmi, both social workers of Tiruvarankulam and Arimalam respectively.
The villagers will receive the prestigious award at a function to be held at the Indira Gandhi National Open University campus in New Delhi on August 1.
The awardees, coordinated with the Village Resource Centre of the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, at Annavasal village in the district, in disseminating knowledge and information on health care, hygiene, agricultural techniques to the villagers.
In fact, Ms. Mekala Muthu opened a Village Knowledge Centre at Onankudi and guided the farmers on cropping practices and cultivation methods with a scientific strategy.
