Official apathy: The causeway connecting Rangampalayam and Senapathypalayam has been damaged causing a lot of inconvenience to people.
ERODE: Those who go to Rangampalayam from Senapathypalayam have to wade through stagnated sewage water as the causeway built across the ‘odai’ has been removed.
Difficulties
Senapathypalayam, just six kms from Erode, is home to more than 200 families. There are many villages too around the area inhabited by thousands.
More than a decade ago a causeway (small ground level bridge) was constructed over the ‘odai’ to enable people to cross over.
Some days ago the causeway was damaged.
Authorities decided to build a bridge in place of the causeway.
But the work has not been carried out. As a result, hundreds of people have to walk through sewage water.
Deviation
Cycles have to be carried physically and other vehicles take a deviation, driving two kilometres when the distance to the other end is only 10 meters.
“We have been requesting Kasipalayam Grade Three Municipality and the district administration to construct a bridge across the odai, but nothing has been done,” villagers told The Hindu.
