New curricula for lateral entrants to BE course
Staff Reporter
Anna University will offer three-year programme for diploma holders and another one for graduates
COIMBATORE: Diploma-holders and science graduates wishing to pursue an engineering degree under the lateral entry scheme will no longer have to sit along with candidates who have just completed their Plus Two. They will have separate class rooms and new curricula.
Unique
According to R. Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, Coimbatore, for the first time in India the university will offer a unique three-year programme for diploma holders, and another one for graduates. This will avoid them the embarrassment of sitting along with their juniors and also help them save time by not having to study the basics which they would have already covered in their diploma or degree.
Fifteen colleges have come forward to offer the BE courses for these category of candidates. The disciplines that would be offered are civil, computer science, electronics and communication, mechanical, electrical and electronics, aeronautical, information technology and textile technology.
Counselling
The students who will be admitted under the scheme will be considered regular students of the university. Their classes will be conducted in the off-campus mode.
Counselling for admission to these courses will be held on July 30 on the Government College of Technology premises.
