KOCHI: TVS Srichakra Limited, the two- and three-wheeler tyre major, has announced the launch of three new generation tyres including the country’s first puncture-resistant tubeless tyre here on Friday. Tyres under the brand names Poly X (polyester fabric tyres ideal for high speed bikes) and Anaconda (dual tread tyres which have double tread) were also launched. No loss of air pressure
S. Balasubramanian, Executive vice-president (Operations and Marketing) of the company, said these tyres were specially designed bearing in mind the different needs of two-wheelers in the market. The puncture-resistant tubeless tyres come with a self-sealing technology that allows no loss of air pressure in the event of a puncture, withstanding air pressure even with a penetration of any puncture material of 3 mm thickness. The technology makes sure the tyre retains air and avoids failures arising due to less inflation/deflation while running. Kochi has been considered the launch pad for the new tyres because 40 per cent of the raw material purchase is carried out from Kerala, he said. He said the company achieved a sales turnover of Rs.468 crore in the last financial year and was targeting Rs.568 crore in the current fiscal. In Kerala, TVS tyres got a market share of 18 per cent and a sales turnover of Rs.75 lakh per month. The sales turnover would touch Rs.10 crore by the end of current fiscal in the State, he added.
