Talks are on to fix Rs. 90 per day: Minister

Udhagamandalam: Efforts were being made to hike the wages of the Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation (TANTEA) workers, said the Khadi Board Minister, K. Ramachandran, at Gudalur on Friday.

Participating in a series of face-to-face programmes, he said that talks were on to give them Rs. 90 per day. Adverting to the long-standing land problem at Gudalur and surroundings, he said that the issue would be thrashed out at a meeting of ministers and officials concerned.

New buses

Stating that 50 new buses had been pressed into service in various parts of the district over the past few months, he said that more would be added to the fleet of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation here.

Since erratic power supply and low voltage had been a major problem in Gudalur, work on erecting a 110 KV sub-station has been initiated.

The problems of farm labourers would be taken up with the Agriculture Department.

Steps would be taken to overcome the difficulties of the students in the Panchayat Union Primary School at Nadugani Anna Nagar owing to shortage of space and lack of basic amenities.

All the eligible persons will benefit from the free colour TV scheme of the government, he said.
