Defence industry symposium concludes

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Government plans to set up an industrial park, exclusively for Defence production. A finishing school too is in the offing, to mould professionals interested in Defence-production sector.

This was stated by Minister for Industries Elamaram Karim, while addressing the valedictory session of the two-day Defence industry symposium here on Friday afternoon. The Secretary, Defence Production, K.P. Singh said the symposium was the first of its kind organised by a State Government. “We cannot succeed till the private sector too pools in with help. Though 100 per cent self-sufficiency might be difficult, we have the resources to be self-sufficient to a good degree. We have to demonstrate our indigenous capability to the world.”

T. Balakrishnan, Principal Secretary (Industries and Commerce), and Umang Patodia, Chairman Confederation of Indian Industry (Kerala), spoke.
