Alleged misbehaviour of lecturer with student

HYDERABAD: The agitation over the alleged misbehaviour by a lecturer with a student two days ago took a serious turn on Friday when activists of student organisations attacked the Sri Chaitanya Junior College building at Mehdipatnam.

Based on a complaint lodged by the college principal Seetaram, the Asifnagar police registered a criminal case against the lecturer Nagabhushanam.

Some workers of All India Student Federation, Telugu Nadu Student Federation and Telugu Desam Party were also arrested on the charge of damaging the furniture and window panes of the college.

Complains to parents

West Zone DCP N. Madhusudhan Reddy said the maths lecturer was accused of outraging the modesty of an Intermediate second year student when she stayed back in the college for special class on Wednesday evening.

The girl complained to her parents who brought the incident to the notice of Mr. Seetaram the next day.

The principal reportedly assured the parents of suspending the lecturer.

On Friday afternoon, activists of the student organisations and the TDP stormed the college alleging that the college management was allowing the ‘tainted’ lecturer to take classes.

“However, neither the student nor her parents preferred to lodge a complaint with the police till now,” Mr. Reddy said.

Furniture damaged

Some of the angry agitators damaged the furniture and broke window glasses creating mild tension in the area.

The Asifnagar police rushed to the spot and arrested some of the attackers.

While a case under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the lecturer, another case under Sections 143, 341, 427 was registered against those who attacked the college.
