Minister’s pat: State Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan, congratulating D. Thamarai Manalan, first rank holder in Bachelor of Labour Management course, at the convocation of the Tamilnadu Institute of Labour Studies held in Chennai on Friday.
CHENNAI: The Tamilnadu Institute of Labour Studies will soon be allotted land here for constructing its own building, according to State Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan.
Distributing degrees and diplomas to 292 students at the convocation here on Friday, the Minister said though the State Government had allotted land, the institute could not take possession of it and construct buildings due to a legal tangle.
The Government had now decided to allot another piece of land to the institute. Complimenting the institute for its performance, the Minister said students passing out of the institute had been readily absorbed by industries.
In the current year, 75 per cent of the students were offered employment in 26 reputed companies.
Labour Department Secretary Ramesh Kumar Khanna, who presided over the convocation, said there was good employment scope for the courses offered by the institute.
Research centre
Labour Commissioner A. Sukumaran said the institute had been recognised as a research centre and 23 students were registered for Ph.D.
