PANAJI: Leaders of the newly formed Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA) called on Governor S.C. Jamir on Friday, immediately after his arrival here from New Delhi, to demand the dismissal of the “Congress-led alliance Government in minority” or to issue directions to the Speaker under Article 175 of the Constitution to conduct a floor test in the presence of his impartial observer on Monday. The GDA leaders apprehended that the Speaker may repeat his action of Thursday when he adjourned the House without taking up financial business after the Treasury benches created a ruckus. The GDA delegation was led by BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar and representatives of the GDA partners, including president of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party Pandurang Raut, MGP legislature party leader Ramakrishna Dhavlikar, president of UGDP Radharao Gracias, general secretary of the Save Goa Front (SGF) Wilfred Misquita and the former Goa BJP president, Rajendra Arlekar. Mr. Parrikar said the Governor assured them that he would uphold the Constitution and go by precedents. Otherwise, there was a virtual lull on the political front in the State on Friday after the day-long hectic political developments of Thursday. High drama was witnessed past Wednesday-midnight when the 48-day-old Congress-led coalition Government of Digambar Kamat faced trouble. After two days of speculation, one of its alliance partners and one independent withdrew support and one Congress MLA submitted her resignation to form an alternative alliance led by the BJP.
