THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations has cancelled all allotments made to engineering and medical courses on Thursday morning. Minister for Education M.A. Baby said here on Saturday that a re-allotment had been necessitated in view of the High Court orders relating to merit-cum-means reservation and fee structure in self-financing professional colleges. “The Government will take a decision on Monday, July 30 on the reservation norms and on the fee structure,” Mr. Baby said. Asked if the decision would be in the form of a Government Order or an Ordinance, Mr. Baby said the final decision of the Government would be based on legal advice. The office of the Commissioner says the web site for submitting options has been blocked so that no revision of the options list is possible. The decision for a re-allotment has come as a relief for seven students with high ranks who found themselves with no allotment due to a programming glitch at the National Informatics Centre that handles the technical side of the allotment process. Their names got excluded from the list when the allotment software was asked to remove the merit-cum-means category in self-financing engineering colleges under the Government.
