DEHRA DUN: The opposition Congress in Uttarakhand has drawn up an intensive canvassing plan to give a tough fight to Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri who is seeking to enter the State Assembly from Dhumakot where a by-election is due on August 29. Gen. Khanduri is accused of having engineered the defection of the sitting MLA and Congress strongman T. P. S. Rawat to the saffron fold whose resignation has led to the upcoming by-election. According to Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Harish Rawat, the coming days will see party workers reaching out to each household with the story of Gen. Rawat’s deceit. Each Nyay Panchayat will be placed under a general secretary and senior leaders will also address election meetings , Mr. Rawat said here over the weekend. The Congress high command will soon decide the name of the party candidate for the by-election. Among the frontrunners for the ticket is party general secretary Dhirendra Pratap whose name was struck down in favour of Gen. Rawat during the last two elections, party sources said.
