Madhuri bags a double

Mysore: Top-seeded R. Madhuri, a product of the Sports Authority of India, Bangalore and a tenth standard student of Himanshu Jyothi Kalapita, Bangalore hogged the limelight on the penultimate day of the IInd K.C. Bimbesh Memorial State ranking table tennis championship, when she won the junior girls and youth girls singles titles and clinched a grand double at the Vontikoppal Club here on Saturday.

In the junior girls’ singles final, R. Madhuri playing an attacking game on both the flanks to register a 11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 14-16, 11-6, 11-8 win over third-seeded Bhavana V. Murthy (Horizon TT). Later in the day, Madhuri continued her good form when she won the youth girls’ singles title beating second-seeded A.N. Poojitha of Horizon 11-4, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6 to complete a fine double.

The results: Girls: Junior: Singles: Final: R. Madhuri (SAI) bt Bhavana V. Murthy (HOR) 11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 14-16, 11-6, 11-8. Semifinals: R. Madhuri bt N.P. Nisarga (SAI) 4-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7; Bhavana V. Murt hy bt N. Poojitha 11-8, 11-7, 11-4, 5-11, 7-11, 11-9.

Youth: Singles: Final: R. Madhuri bt N. Poojitha (Hor) 11-4, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6. Semifinals: R. Madhuri bt Sanjana Dinak (PTTA) 11-5, 8-11, 11-4, 14-12, 11-4; N. Poojitha bt V. Ranjitha (BNM) 6-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-8, 11-6.

Girls: Sub-junior: Final: Bhavana V. Murthy bt Anjali Dinak (PTTA) 11-8, 11-5, 11-8.

Boys: Junior: Singles: Final: V. Akhil (BNM) bt B.M. Sagar (WCA) 11-4, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6; Semifinals: B.M. Sagar bt A.R. Navaneeth (Hor) 11-6, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7; V. Akhil (BNM) bt P. Puneeth (Hor) 9-11, 5-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-5, 13-11, 11-9.

Sub-junior: Singles: Final: P. Puneeth (HOR) bt V.P. Charan (SAI) 11-5, 11-4, 11-8.
Aquatics championship

The State senior aquatics championship will be held at Basavangudi Aquatic Centre pool here from August.6 to 8. The events include swimming, diving and water polo for men and women.

Both swimming and water polo competitions will be held at BAC pool, while diving will be conducted at Jayanagar pool.

The State squad for the 61st senior National championship scheduled to be held at Panaji from September 19 to 23, will be selected after the State meet.
Taekwondo meet

The Chitradurga District Taekwondo Association will conduct the 25th State senior championship for men and women at Vinayaka Kalyan Mantapa, Challakere Road, Chitradurga on August 4 and 5.

The State squad for the senior National championship scheduled to be held in Kohima, from September 26 to 28, will be selected after this meet.
