BANGALORE: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday urged the United Progressive Alliance Government to table an action taken report in the coming Parliament session, indicating what it proposed to do on each of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee. Allow discussion
He also demanded that the Government allow a discussion on the recommendations of the Committee, which looked into the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims. Participating in a State-level convention organised by the Karnataka CPI(M) unit to bring pressure on the Government to implement the Committee recommendations, Mr. Karat expressed dissatisfaction that the UPA Government had failed to initiate any concrete steps for the implementation of the recommendations though eight months had passed since the report was tabled in Parliament. BJP’s charge
The report had exposed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s charges of Muslim appeasement levelled against the UPA and the Left Parties, he said. On the United National Progressive Alliance, Mr. Karat said: “We have noted that some of the parties which earlier worked with us have come together. We are waiting to know what shape the group will assume as some of its constituents voted for Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in the Presidential poll in spite of the decision to abstain from polling.”
