NEW DELHI: The Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), Bangalore, has approved aviation turbine fuel (ATF) processed at the Hazira plant of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation. With this certification after stringent testing, the decks have been cleared for the ONGC to sell ATF for use in military aircraft. N.K. Mitra, Director (Offshore) Marketing, said the ONGC’s entry into the AFT business would provide another service provider to airlines, put in place another production ATF centre and bring about more competitiveness in fuel pricing. The CEMILAC, established in 1995, is one of the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s significant agencies entrusted with certification of military aircraft and airborne stores. Dipankar Banerjee, Chief Controller R&D (AMS), Defence Ministry, presented a technical certificate to Mr. Mitra in the presence of K. Tamilmani, chief executive (airworthiness), CEMILAC. The Hazira plant in Gujarat, the largest gas-processing complex in the country, is designed to process 41 million M3 of sour natural gas daily and associated sour condensate. The ATF produced at the plant, which has state-of-the-art facilities for gas processing, has been extracted from gas condensate.
