Vehicular traffic had gone up by two folds Over 50,000 people attended the convention
MYSORE: The last four days in Mysore turned out to be most-busiest for the city traffic police. Vehicular traffic had gone up by two folds since Thursday and the roads, especially those in the city centres, witnessed congestion all through the day, thanks to the arrival of thousands of delegates to the valedictory of centenary celebrations of cooperative movement from across the State. The police are now hoping to see a decline in the traffic from Monday with the conclusion of the celebrations on Sunday and the delegates returning to their homes. Tourist spots
Not just in Mysore city, the traffic to the popular tourist spots surrounding the city had also increased with the delegates, who had come with their friends and families, taking time from the centenary celebrations, visiting the must-see places in and around Mysore to make their visit to the Royal City memorable. Barring Dasara festivities, the city had never witnessed vehicular traffic of this kind. Owing to the mega cooperative convention, which drew over 50,000 delegates from all districts, the task of the traffic police was made difficult and challenging. To coincide with these celebrations, the city played host to Mysore Utsav, which doubled the job of the police personnel. Accordingly, more policemen had to be deployed at Maharaja College Grounds, the venue of the ustav, as the turn-out of crowds to the live concerts of Bollywood singers Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghoshal on Friday and Shaan on Saturday was beyond anybody’s expectation, considering the timing of the utsav. Sources in the Police Department said over 5,000 to 6,000 private vehicles had ferried members of cooperatives to the city from various places for the celebrations. According to an estimate, based on the inputs from the organisers of the celebrations, 50,000 to 60,000 members of cooperatives and others visited the city since Thursday. Some delegates, along with their families, were found relaxing in Manasagangotri campus on Sunday, after hectic sight seeing. A member of a cooperative from Raibag in Belgaum district said, “The vegetation is good here, hence we thought of relaxing in the campus for sometime as it has been very hectic for us attending the convention and visiting places of tourist importance in and around the city.”
