LUCKNOW: Business and industrial houses making an investment of Rs. 100 crore or more in Uttar Pradesh will not be entitled for any incentives from the State Government. The industrial policy, pertaining to the grant of incentives for attracting Rs. 100 crore plus investment, formulated by the Mulayam Singh regime was scrapped by the Bahujan Samaj Party Government on Sunday. This decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting presided over by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati. The earlier policy had been framed in the light of the special industrial and financial package granted by the Central Government to the neighbouring hill state of Uttarakhand. The previous regime was of the view that the Central package had led to a flight of industries from UP to Uttarakhand. The incentives for investment in any part of UP consisted of five per cent subsidy, interest free loan and transport subsidy. State Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh told reporters only those industrial units that had been given the “Letter of Comfort” could avail themselves of the benefits and no incentive would be given on fresh investment. Mr. Singh said the incentives to industrial units in Uttarakhand had been institutionalised by the Central Government. Moreover, the State Government was not in a position to grant similar incentives. Through another Cabinet decision, it was decided to build airstrips in Azamgarh, Chitrakoot and Moradabad. Mr. Singh said the Central public sector undertaking, RITES (airport division), will develop the airstrips. For streamlining the judicial work in Allahabad High Court, 95 posts of trainee law clerks would be created. Law graduates passing out from reputed law institutes would be appointed as law clerks (trainee) on contractual basis for a period of one year. They will be paid a fixed honorarium of Rs. 10,000 per month. Meanwhile, a State-level committee has been constituted to commemorate the birth anniversary of BSP founder, Kanshi Ram. The Cabinet Secretary said the panel would be headed by PWD and Irrigation Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui with four other cabinet ministers as its members. The Director, Information and Public Relations Department will be the convenor of the committee. Principal Secretaries of different Government departments will be the coopted members of the panel.
