VIJAYAWADA: It is a common sight in the city that at least one member in every family resides abroad. In most cases, aged parents are left behind without any one to take care of them, as children go abroad in search of greener pastures. In view of the necessity to provide geriatric care to the needy, some like-minded persons have joined hands one-and-a-half-year ago to give shape to the Telugu NRIs Parents Association (TNRIsPA). Regular medical camps
The association was formed with a ‘no profit’ motive and not to take up any political activity but only to extend a moral support to NRIs’ parents who lead a solitary life, said its secretary Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao on Sunday. The association made a modest beginning by organising medical camps to its members. The first camp was organised in January and the second one on Sunday. Both were attended by a fairly good number of members. The association had plans to organise medical camp every month, and a master health check up camp very soon, he revealed. Mr. Rao said books and uniforms had been distributed to 12 poor students on Sunday as part of the association’s social welfare programmes. The students had been selected from the poorest of the poor sections and studying in government schools. The association had set for itself a target to help at least 100 students from next year onwards, he added.
