Six killed, 30 injured in Srinagar blast

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: Six persons, including two children, were killed and 30 others injured in a powerful explosion in a tourist bus near the Shalimar garden here on Sunday. The bus was carrying tourists from Gujarat.

Witnesses told The Hindu that the explosion rocked the area around 3.30 p.m. “We heard a big bang, and it was like the earth was slipping from under my feet,” an injured tourist said at the Soura Medical Institute.

Police said a young girl Sabina died on the spot. Four others, including local girl Nusrat, died of injuries in the hospital. “The condition of some of the injured is very critical,” doctors said. Some of the injured were rushed to the Bone and Joint Hospital.

Police said the bus was carrying two Muslim families from Gujarat. After lunch at the house of Mohammad Abdullah Malla, a local, they visited the Hazratbal shrine and were approaching the Shalimar garden when the blast occurred.
