An ordeal: A horse-cart wades through a water-logged area after heavy rain in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday.
PATNA: More than 250 school students were trapped in the Navodaya Vidyalaya in Darbhanga as flood waters entered the school on Sunday. According to reports, the students could not be sent home as the waters of Bagmati and Kamla Balan overflowed and flooded the lower reaches of the town. The Indian Air Force airstrip and the Bihar Military Police base was also flooded. The district was cut off from the rest of the State with the National Highway connecting Patna submerged The swollen Bagmati swept away a newly constructed Ghulam Sarvar bridge connecting Darbhanga with Keoti. About 20 people who fell into the river were rescued. The torrential rain uprooted trees and one such incident led to the death of a driver on the Chapra-Siwan road. Snakebites claimed at least six lives in the State. PTI reports from Lucknow In Uttar Pradesh, the death toll in rain-related incidents has gone up to 25 as the threat of floods loomed large with several rivers in spate. Eight persons, including three children, were killed in Bahraich district when the wall of their house collapsed, official sources said on Sunday. According to a report from Lakhimpur-Kheri district, flood waters from the swollen Sharda entered the famous Dudhwa National Park, posing a threat to the animals. Rains continued to lash several parts of the State since Saturday with Bareilly receiving 71 mm rainfall. — PTI
