Empowering youth, the CII way

BHUBANESWAR: As part of affirmative action plan of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), some 29 youths belonging to Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste category completed training programme here on Monday.

Training in Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP) could prove to be handy for these youths to become entrepreneurs in future.

The CII has been implementing its affirmative action plan through Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), an autonomous institution.

After the completion of the short training programme, which started on June 20 and got over on July 21, the youths prepared projects to put up their own units. “The volume of investment they will be requiring for their ventures is ranging between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 3 lakh,” said EDI Regional Director C. R Patnaik. He said EDI along with CII would pursue different banks to extend loans to these youths who aspired to become entrepreneurs. "We hope the above 15 project would be materialised with in a period of one year," Mr. Patnaik. The youths, who attended the training programmes, were from district such Khurda, Rayagada, Nayagarh and Cuttack districts.

“If needed, the EDI is ready to send these youths for technical training for their ventures," he said. Vice-hairman of CII, Orissa, Santosh Mohapatra and Assistant General Manager of SIDBI, Bhubaneswar Srikant Das attended the valedictory ceremony, which was organised here on Monday.
