Priority for weaker sections: Minister

Unemployed youth get financial aid

NAGAPATTINAM: The State Government is according priority for the welfare of the weaker sections and has been implementing several welfare schemes and projects to benefit them, said the Minister for Environment, T.P.M. Moideen Khan, on Sunday.

Distributing the unemployment dole to 635 youths in the third phase in Nagapattinam district at a function in Sirkazhi, the Minister said that as many as 10,540 youths had so far received Rs.1.15 crore in the district as unemployment dole from the Government. He pointed out that 8,888 youths had received the unemployment allowance in the first phase and 1,017 in the second phase in the district.

The District Collector Tenkasi S.Jawahar, explained the various development works being taken up in the district. He pointed out that thousands of villagers were being provided employment under the Tamil Nadu Rural Employment Guarantee scheme assuring a minimum wage of Rs.80 per day. Several development works including creation and desilting of irrigation tanks, desilting of irrigation channels are being taken up under the TNREG scheme, he said.

A.K.S.Vijayan, P, M. Paneerselvam, M. K. Periyasamy, K. Anbazhagan and S. K. Vedarathinam, MLAs and others spoke.

Kumbakonam

The Minister for Co-operation, Ko.Si. Mani, distributed Rs.2.48 lakh to 393 beneficiaries as financial assistance in the third phase of distribution of the dole to unemployed youth here on Sunday. He also distributed a sum of Rs.29,000 as benefit to 10 persons from the Industries Department.

The Minister said that the assistance to unemployed youth was being given under three categories, who have completed X, XII and college education.

He also said that co-operative loans to the tune of Rs.7000 crore to help farmers of Cauvery delta districts.

The Collector (in charge), N. Muthukaruppan, the Assistant Director, Employment, K.P. Rajendran, and the Chairman, Thiruvidaimaruthur panchayat union, S. Ramalingam, spoke.
