HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary N. Indrasena Reddy has appealed to President Pratibha Patil to initiate action against Goa Speaker Pratap Singh Rane for disqualifying from voting the two Maharashtra Gomantak Party MLAs during the trial of strength in the Assembly on Monday. The Speaker went against the Constitution to save the day for the Congress Government by exercising his vote right after ensuring that there was a tie in the House over the no confidence motion, Mr. Reddy told a news conference here on Monday. He felt the Speaker had committed Constitutional impropriety in disqualifying the MGP legislators on the strength of anti-defection laws. The MLAs did not attract the laws as their withdrawal of support to the Government was a party decision. On the eve of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to the city to review agricultural scenario in the State, Mr. Reddy demanded the resignation of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for causing a loss of Rs. 400 crore to the exchequer by approving a tender for import of wheat at an escalated price. The BJP would organise a dharna near the Parliament House on August 20 in support of wheat farmers.
