ANANTAPUR: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Monday demanded an inquiry into the accident at Ultratech cement unit at Bugga near Tadipatri on Sunday in which six workers were killed while the crane was being operated and several others injured. It also sought succour to the bereaved families. CITU district president and general secretary B. Lalithamma and M. Imtiaz respectively alleged that negligence of the factory management was clearly evident. Lack of safety measures had led to the killing of the workers, they said. They demanded a probe by the district Collector and a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each to the families of the victims. At least one member of each of these families should be given employment by the management along with facilities like Provident Fund, insurance, pension, etc. and action should be taken against the management, they said. The CITU leaders visited three injured workers getting treatment in a private hospital here. They also submitted a memorandum to Collector N. Sridhar.
