Legislators wary of disclosing sources of assets Rs. 97 lakh released for tourist infrastructure
HUVINA HADAGALI (BELLARY DT): M.P.Prakash, Minister for Home, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, has said that an amendment to the Karnataka Lokayukta Act, with regard to providing suo-motu powers to the Lokayukta would be brought in soon. Speaking to press persons here on Sunday evening, Mr. Prakash, while making it clear that the Government had the will to accord suo motu powers as sought by the Lokayukta, said that he had had detailed discussions with the Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayukta in this regard and would come out with suitable action in this regard so as to enable the office of the Lokayukta to investigate cases up to the official-level. "The work of drafting the amendments was on and soon would be completed and placed before the Cabinet for approval. With regard to legislators expressing concern on the functioning of the Lokayukta, he said that it had come in the wake of small changes made in the proforma used for submitting details of assets. According to him, earlier, only the assets possessed by legislators had to be disclosed, but now, according to the new proforma, its sources should also be mentioned. ‘All these issues would be looked into while bringing about an amendment", he said. Mr. Prakash said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would be touring several districts for ten days from August 20, to not only review the developments taking place but also to accelerate other on going projects. The tour, would begin at Mandya and end at Basavakalyan. Mr. Prakash said that the government had accorded priority to tourism and had allocated substantial funds for the development of tourist infrastructure at important places. Funds assured
The Union Government had also assured release of funds for the development of Hampi, a world heritage site, he said and added that the State Government had released Rs. 97 lakhs to facilitate development of tourist infrastructure at important places in the district. A Yatri Nivas would be constructed at Kottur and Mylar, both pilgrim centres. Mr. Prakash was here to participate in the valedictory function of the two-day health check-up camp organized by Rangabharati, founded by him, in association with Bangalore-based Social and Voluntary Service Environment.
