Campaign launched for success of the programme BPNI to submit petitions to all chief ministers
MYSORE: “Beginning breastfeeding within one hour of birth: Can save 2,50,000 Indian Babies every year,” this is the theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2007 which will be observed from August 1. The Indian Academy of Paediatrician (IAP), Mysore chapter, Mysore Ladies Circle 9 and Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), Mysore chapter, have launched a campaign here for the success of the programme and educate young mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding. The BPNI will submit petitions to the chief ministers of all States through MLAs and deputy commissioners for supporting women to save babies. The petitions will seek provisions for protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding women in their State policy and programmes. At a press conference here on Monday, S.N. Prashanth of IAP, Anjali of MLC 9 and D. Narayanappa of BPNI highlighted the importance of the initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth.
