NEW DELHI: Two young men who allegedly shot at and seriously injured a 35-year-old woman after she objected to their misbehaviour with her daughter at Bawana here last weekend have been arrested by the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch at Samaipur Badli. Acting on a tip-off that Navin (20) and Manjit Singh (22), accused in an attempt-to-murder case at Bawana, would come to Samaipur Badli, a team led by Inspector K.G. Tyagi laid a trap and arrested them on Sunday. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that Navin liked a minor girl living in his neighbourhood but she spurned his advances. Finding her alone on July 27, Navin and his accomplices Manjit and Surender intercepted her and Navin allegedly assaulted her. The victim narrated the incident to her mother, who in turn complained to Navin’s parents. Navin’s father beat him up, which angered him and he allegedly arranged a country-made firearm, after which he, Surender and Manjit went to the woman’s house and shot her in the chest. She is still in hospital in a critical condition. Surender was soon arrested by the local police, while Navin and Manjit were on the run.
