Two women killed in road accident

A maxi-cab and a State Transport Corporation bus collide near Tiruvallur

TIRUVALLUR: Two women were killed and 22 others injured when a maxi-cab and a State Transport Corporation bus collided near here on Monday.

Sources said the maxi-cab, hired by a family residing at Shenoy Nagar in Chennai to go on a pilgrimage to Tiruttani, and the bus coming from Tiruttani to Chennai collided at Pattaraiperumpudur under the Tiruvallur taluk police station limits.

While Shantha Bai (60) of Shenoy Nagar and Sruthi (40) of Bangalore, travelling in the maxi-cab, died on the spot, 15 others travelling along with them were injured.

Seven passengers in the bus were also injured when the vehicle hit a roadside tamarind tree after colliding with the maxi-cab.

A total of 11 persons were referred to the Government General Hospital in Chennai and others were admitted as inpatients at the Government Hospital in Kancheepuram, the sources added.
