CHENNAI: Sir M.Ct. Muthiah Chettiar Higher Secondary School will conduct the State-level inter-school basketball tournament for boys and girls at its premises in Purasawalkam, here, from August 1 to 4. Speaking to newspersons here on Monday, Mr. M.A. Selvaraj, Correspondent, Sir M.Ct.M. HSS, said 16 teams each in the boys’ and girls’ sections have confirmed their participation, out of which five are from outstation. Hindu SSS is the defending champion in boys’ section, while Sri Sarada Vidyalaya HSS is the reigning champion in the girls’ section. Selvaraj said the tournament will be played on a knock-out-cum-league format. The top four will compete in the league and the winner will be decided on points. “We have decided to hold the tournament in the memory of M.Ct. Muthiah, Chairman, Sir M.Ct.M Trust Board, who passed away in September last year. M.Ct. Muthiah, the grandson of Sir M.Ct.Muthiah, was an inspiration for us in holding the tournament for the last 16 years,” added Selvaraj.
