BANGALORE: Are you a book lover? If yes, then you can at last lay your hands on book tokens. Hot favourites in the West, book tokens will be on sale in the city soon in the run up to the fourth edition of the Bangalore Book Festival, organised by Bangalore Booksellers and Publishers Association (BBPA) and Klub Class. The book tokens entitle you special concessions at the 300-odd stalls in the festival, to be held at the Palace Grounds from September 21 to 30. This is in addition to the regular 10 per cent concession that stalls will offer. The book tokens, priced at Rs. 40 each, also double up as a pass: two persons can get into the exhibition using one token. Sale of book tokens will be closed once the festival begins. Entry is free for children and students, B.S. Raghuram, Programme Director of the festival, told presspersons here on Tuesday. Those who do not have tokens can buy Rs. 20 entry tickets. But they would not get special concessions. “Book tokens mark an important step towards in reaching the denizens of Bangalore directly,” Mr. Raghuram said. Mr. Raghuram expects 1.5 lakh tokens to be sold in the city. Details of venues of token sale will be announced soon. BBPA president Balaram Sadhwani said book tokens were being released for the first time in the country. He agreed to consider introducing book tokens as a regular feature. Mr. Raghuram said 1.5 lakh people visited the festival last year and bought books worth over Rs. 20 crore. The festival features both Indian and international publishing houses. Mr. Sadhwani said the Low Priced Books scheme of the Indian Government had made scores of educational books available at an affordable cost. Several titles in these series will be up for grabs in the festival. Every month, books worth Rs. 4 crore to Rs. 5 crore were being sold under the scheme in Karnataka alone.
