A magical tune

Dream Debut: Hwang Jung In from South Korea playing Carnatic music on flute at Vijnana Kala Vedi in Aranmula on Monday.

It was a dream come true for Hwang Jung In when she gave her maiden concert of Carnatic ragas on flute.

The 28-year-old South Korean enthralled connoisseurs at the Vijnana Kala Vedi Hall at Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district on Monday evening.

Hwang, a student of western music in the U.S. for the past 12 years, is on a student visa to India to learn Carnatic music.

She has been learning flute recital under Santhoshkumar Changamkary of the vedi for eight weeks.

The vedi’s founder director, Louba Schild, arranged her “arangettom” (maiden performance). The concert lasted two hours. Ms. Schild made the introductory speech.
