PUDUCHERRY: The Oulgaret Municipality plans to seek Rs.12 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission for carrying out development works. Giving a clarification about the allocation of funds under the mission, chairman N. S. Jayabal informed the council that the civic body was in the process of selecting an agency to draw up a detailed project report. An expression of interest had been floated to invite proposals from interested private players. The last date for submitting the proposal falls on August 9. The municipality intends to utilise the funds for expanding major roads under its limit, for improving infrastructure at the Mettupalayam truck terminal, putting up rain water harvesting facility and to renovate the old municipal building, he said. The chairman also informed the ward members that an advanced pump set to drain sewage canal was ready for use. He asked the council members to use the facility to drain the canals before the onset of monsoon to avoid water-logging. Friday’s council meeting unanimously passed 48 resolutions.
