Council adopts Finance Bill

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Legislative Council adopted the Karnataka Appropriation Bill, 2007 on Monday.

Participating in a discussion on the Bill, Leader of the Opposition H.K. Patil termed Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa as a lucky Finance Minister. “Without any effort, revenue is flowing into the Government’s coffers. Revenue can increase drastically if the Government makes sincere efforts to reduce pilferage,” he said.

He expressed concern that the Government was yet to keep its promise to sugarcane farmers.

He urged the Government to set up a State-level University Grants Commission to provide financial autonomy to universities.
