Arjun distances himself from dowry issue

New Delhi: Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh has distanced himself from the allegations that his family has been harassing his grandson’s wife for dowry.

“I have nothing to do with it. My opinion was sidelined at the wedding,” Mr. Singh told CNN-IBN. He said he did not even attend the wedding of his grandson which took place one-and-a-half years ago.

PTI reports from Lucknow:

The U.P. Government has decided to recommend a CBI inquiry into a complaint of alleged torture of the wife of Mr. Singh’s grand son for dowry. A case under Anti-Dowry Act has been registered against Mr. Singh, his wife Beena Singh, son Abhimanyu Singh, grandson Abhijeet Singh and three others at a police station in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The case was registered on the direction of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandausi, on a complaint by Madhvendra Singh, father of Priyanka Singh whom Abhijeet married. Madhvendra Singh alleged that Priyanka’s in-laws wanted a Mercedes car and a flat and his daughter was being tortured when the demand was not met. — PTI
