HYDERABAD: After battling for life for over three days, J. Balaswamy, 32, who sustained bullet injury in the police firing at Mudigonda of Khammam district, died in the early hours of Tuesday here at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) taking the total death toll to seven. The victim, a vegetable vendor, is survived by wife Ramanamma and three daughters. Balaswamy was stated to have gone to Mudigonda from his village Cheruvumarri to buy vegetables when he was caught in the clash between the CPI (M) activists and the police. He collapsed after a bullet pierced through his abdomen when the police fired shots. The victim was initially treated at a hospital in Mudigonda and later rushed to OGH here the same night. A bullet embedded in his abdomen was removed on Sunday. Former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu consoled the victim’s wife at the hospital. Mr. Naidu condemned the police firing holding the Government responsible for the death of Balaswamy and six others.
