Maoist deputy commander surrenders

Sangareddy: Maoist deputy commander Kammula Ilaiah alias Rajesh surrendered before the Medak police on Tuesday. Ilaiah is a native of Mantoor village of Doultabad mandal. Ilaiah, who used to graze cattle, was attracted to the Maoist movement and joined ranks in 2004 with the help of Jaggari Srinivas Goud, alias Sadanand, and Mudike Mallesham, both senior CPI (Maoist) members.

Ilaiah worked in Giraipalli and Indupriyal dalams in Medak district and also in Nallamala area. He was elevated to the deputy commander level in 2007. Ilaiah is involved in the murder of Khajapur Sarpanch, Babu, burning of bulldozers in Kondapur, assault on Tonta Durgaiah of Suraram village, exchange of fire with the police in Kakulagutta, and attack on Mannnanur police station in Mahbubnagar district.
