Order on selection panels quashed

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday quashed the Government order prohibiting nomination of Government and university representatives to the selection committees for appointment of teachers in aided colleges.

The Bench comprising Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice Antony Dominic passed the judgment while allowing a writ petition filed by Mathew Kandathil, Principal, Pazhassi Raja College, Pulpally and the Parent Teacher Association. The Government decided not to nominate its representatives and also directed universities not to send its nominee till the committee headed by the Higher Education Principal Secretary submitted a report after looking into the existing vacancies and surplus teachers in aided colleges. The Government order was issued in August 2006.

The court also directed the Government and Calicut University to nominate its representatives to the selection committees constituted by the college. Counsel for the petitioner contended that the Government and the university had refused permission to fill up the vacancies of teachers in certain courses. Nor had they sent their nominees to the selection committee of the college.

Dress code

A public interest writ petition was filed before the High Court challenging the decision of the Guruvayur Devaswom Managing Committee to allow women in churidar to enter the Guruvayur temple.

The petition was filed by Mohandas of Thirurangandi.

College appeal

C.S.I. Medical College, Karakkonam on Tuesday filed an appeal against the single judge’s interim order directing self-financing medical colleges to collect only the fee recommended by the Fee Regulatory Committee for the management seats.
