Onam fairs in all cities, towns

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Civil Supplies Department will open Onam fairs in all cities and towns in the State to hold the prices of essential commodities in check during the Onam season, Minister for Civil Supplies C. Divakaran has said.

In a press release here on Tuesday, he said Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan would inaugurate this year’s initiative at a function in Kozhikode on August 5.

In addition to the special Onam fairs, the department would ensure the supply of sufficient quantities of essential articles through all Maveli stores and Labham stores under it. One hundred selected outlets would function as Onam markets for five days from August 22, the Minister said.

He said the Government had already procured enough quantities of all essential articles required for the festival season. These would be made available to the consumers at prices lower than those prevailing in the open market, he said.
