CRPF recruit centre shifted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Recruit Centre-III has been shifted from Pallipuram, near Thiruvananthapuram, to Peringom in Kannur district.

The centre is located on 275 acres of land provided by the State Government. Construction work estimated at Rs.55 crore has almost been completed.

The RTC-III is authorised to train 1,215 recruits at a time. It is one of the five such training institutions in the CRPF. So far, 23,000 recruits have successfully passed out from the centre during its operation at Pallipuram.

The accommodation vacated by the centre at Pallipuram will now be utilised by the newly formed 192 Bn. CRPF, comprising 1,200 recruits from north India.

This battalion will begin its basic training in the first week of September and will complete its one-year basic training under the supervision of the DIGP, CRPF, Thiruvananthapuram.

After completion of the training, the unit will join the mainstream of the CRPF, raising the total strength of the CRPF battalions to 200, making it the largest armed police force in the world. Nine other such battalions are being raised at different places in the country.
