Bangalore: Kannada deserves to be awarded the status of a classical language, said Governor T.N. Chaturvedi here on Tuesday. Speaking after being felicitated by Kannada Sahitya Parishat and other Kannada organisations, he said that Kannada was an ancient language with a rich literary heritage. Important task
He stressed the role of translations in increasing the reach of a language and said that this important task should be taken up not only by the Government, but also by universities and research scholars. He had read Kannada through translations and was acquainted with its richness, Mr. Chaturvedi said. ‘Yatre’
The Governor earlier inaugurated “Suvarna Karnataka Jagruthi Yatre”. Chandrashekhar Patil, president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, said that the “yatre” would involve taking a “suvarna ratha” in a procession in various localities of the city. This, the parishat president said, would create awareness about the culture of Karnataka. The other organisations which felicitated Mr. Chaturvedi included Kannada Paksha, Karnataka Navodaya, Kannada Ranadheera Pade and Karnataka Janata Seva Dala.
