Office-bearers for News Broadcasters Association

NEW DELHI: G. Krishnan, Executive Director and CEO of TV Today Network Ltd., has been elected president of the newly formed News Broadcasters Association (NBA). Sameer Manchanda, JMD of Global Broadcast News Ltd., and K. V. L. Narayan Rao, Group CEO of NDTV Limited, will be the vice-president and treasurer respectively of the NBA.

The three office-bearers were elected at the first board meeting of NBA last Wednesday.

Leading news channels

Headquartered in New Delhi , the NBA is a grouping of leading news broadcasters of the country such as TV Today Network Ltd., NDTV Limited, Times Global Broadcasting Company Ltd., TV18 Group, Global Broadcast News Limited, Media Content & Communication Services (MCCS) Pvt. Ltd., Independent News Service Pvt. Ltd., and Zee News Ltd.

Better service

According to NBA secretary-general , the association has been set up to help create and nurture an environment in which news broadcasters can best serve audiences and contribute to the development and diversity of the country.

The NBA would engage with policy-makers on behalf of its members to “promote an industry grounded in the principles of democracy and freedom of expression”.

Content Code

It has already been engaging with the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on the draft Broadcasting Regulatory Authority of India Bill and proposed Content Code.

Besides Mr. Krishnan, Mr. Manchanda and Mr. Rao, the other media heads on the board are Sunil Lulla, Chief Executive Officer of Times Global; Chintamani Rao, Chief Executive Officer of Independent News Service; Harish Doraiswamy, CEO of Zee News; and Uday Shanker, Chief Executive Officer of MCCS.
