NEW DELHI: Rohit Ranaut’s juggernaut rolled to its logical end when he toppled top seed Davinder Dhillon with consummate ease to claim the men’s singles title of the Delhi State badminton championship at the Karnail Singh Stadium here on Tuesday. Ranaut, who upset second seed Tanveer Gill in the semifinals, coasted to a 21-10, 21-14 ictory. The third seeded Ranaut raced away to a 9-1 lead in the first game and put the finishing touches to the 30-minute mismatch by winning the last seven points on the trot. The ladies title went to favourite Mohita Sahdev. The top seed staved off a stiff challenge in the first game from Akansha Nehra before winning 21-19, 21-11. Like Ranaut, Mohita, too, claimed the last seven points of the match. Akansha had the consolation of claiming the girls’ under-19 title at the expense of Priyanka Arya. After easily winning the first game at 11, Akansha narrowly trailed Priyanka for the better part of the second game before settling the issue at 21-18. The boys’ under-19 title went to fourth seed Kaustav Das who surprised favourite Abhishek Ahlawat 21-17, 22-20 after saving a game-point in the second game.
