CUTTACK: Encouraged by the UP success where Brahmins are now sharing power with dalit icon Mayawati, the All-India Brahmin Federation (AIBF) is now out to extend the same experiment to the rest of the country. Always blamed as perpetrators of untouchability in Indian society, they are now set to do some soul searching. As part of its efforts to usher in a classless society, the AIBF is planning to get close to the downtrodden and work for their development. Speaking to newsmen, AIBF general secretary Kotashankar Sharma said the federation was taking up a year-long campaign to see that dalits were brought to the mainstream and get rid of a social evil called quota system. “Reputed persons of our community will tour from September this year to August 2008 in five special groups as part of this endeavour,” Mr. Sharma said. Brahmins would perform pujas and other rituals in the houses of dalits. They would also ensure dalits’ entry into temples. They would dine with dalits and stay together.
