Teachers to stage dharna

Bangalore: Members of the Karnataka State High School Assistant Masters’ Association will hold a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue on Thursday in protest against wage discrepancies in the Fifty Pay Commission recommendations.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, C. Shankarappa, secretary of the association, said high school and pre-university teachers and headmasters had not been given their due by the Fifth Pay Commission.

They had met the Chief Minister earlier and he had ensured a raise of Rs. 200 in their salary. But the association wanted their “rightful due”, which would be an increase of Rs. 1,975, he added. — Special Correspondent
