Haneef’s detention figures in Council

BANGALORE: The detention of Mohammed Haneef by the Australian police for more than three weeks on terrorism-related charges figured in the Legislative Council on Tuesday.

Raising the issue during zero hour, A.M. Hindasgeri (Congress) condemned the Australian Government for unnecessarily detaining Dr. Haneef. Australia had dishonoured Bangalore as well as India as the detention had sent a wrong message that India was an abode of terrorists.

Leader of the Opposition H.K. Patil demanded that the State Government reimburse the doctor’s legal expenses.

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy told the House that he had already offered to help Dr. Haneef. — Staff Reporter
