CHENNAI: City police on Tuesday arrested a man who jumped parole and was absconding for 10 years.

Mylapore police said K. Babu (alias) Kumar, 47, was convicted in 1985 and sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in a murder in Mangollai near Mylapore. He was released on parole in 1997, to allow him to attend to a kidney ailment. However, he jumped parole and was absconding ever since.

According to police sources, he had relocated to Arakkonam and was working there as a daily wager. A special police team tracking down parole-violators and people escaping non-bailable warrants tracked Babu and arrested him near Pallikaranai on Tuesday morning. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
