HYDERABAD: The 520-MW power project at Ramagundam, taken up by the BPL company initially but transferred to the AP Genco by the Rajasekhara Reddy Government following in ordinate delay in execution, has been handed over to the BPL company again.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy announced this here on Tuesday, while briefing the media on the outcomes of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s day-long review of the State’s performance in different sectors. Dr Reddy said the project had been transferred back to BPL as the Prime Minister sought to “maintain good relations with Japan”. Dr Reddy said the Prime Minister had held out a “concrete assurance” to extend sizeable financial assistance to various infrastructure and other projects of the State, and set deadlines for others. Tenders for the 4,000-MW “ultra mega power project” at Krishnapatnam taken up in the Central sector would be called by October. He promised help to the Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road project through National Highways Authority of India. Tenders would be called after preparation of DPRs for the road projects connecting Hyderabad with Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Kurnool and Kadapa.

The Chief Minister said Dr Singh had given go-ahead signal to the Rs. 90,000-crore “inter-city high speed rail corridor” project to connect Hyderabad with other cities by bullet trains, starting with formation of a special purpose vehicle in association with Railway Board. He assured sizeable help to the Rs. 367-crore project taken up to lay roads in naxalite-affected areas.

On the crucial issue of pricing of gas from the K-G Basin, the Prime Minister said he was “seriously considering” the plea made by the State to offer gas at controlled price and ensure profit to the State out of the K-G gas.
