To produce 90,000 motorcycles Plans to introduce electric scooterette
CHENNAI: In what is seen as a serious bid to boost sales and mark presence in certain dominant segments, TVS Motor Company is gearing to launch a series of vehicles this year. The company has lined up 11 new vehicles (under four new platforms) for launch. These will also include two three-wheelers. Addressing a press conference here on Tuseday, Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, said the company would produce more than 90,000 motorcycles a month from October. At present, it is producing 45,000-50,000 vehicles a month. “We will be introducing six new motorcycles in the entry, executive and premium segments apart from introducing a new electric scooterette, a scooter and two three-wheelers to fill the entire gap,” he said. Mr. Srinivasan said the company had failed to bring in new products in the entry as well as executive segments between early 2004 and till now. These together held a major chunk of the sales. Further, during this period the company was focused on setting up the Indonesian plant and developing in-house research and development and engineering capabilities. “The sale of high-end executive segment product, Apache RTR, will go up to 15,000 units a month from 5,000 units now. The company plans to sell 2,000 three-wheeler autos a month,” Mr. Srinivasan said.
