KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting suffered a jolt at the beginning of its Calcutta Football League campaign. The former champion went down by a goal against Peerless SC in its first Premier Division match here at its home ground on Tuesday. The first session of the match went barren with the home side struggling to bring together a coordinated show. Peerless made most of the diffidence in the opposition ranks and dominated the action in the second session, making good use of the flanks and putting the Sporting defence under pressure with repeated incursions into the box. Peerless found the goal in the 63rd minute when its forward Gouranga Biswas effected a brilliant header to guide home a cross from Zoheb Hassan. This was the second win for Peerless, which took its tally to six points to remain on top of the league standings. —Principal Correspondent
