Chennai: Grand Slam leads the table with 26 points after five rounds in the TNCA first division league. On a Tuesday of rain and wet ground conditions, Grand Slam, with paceman P. Amarnath and left-arm spinner V. Arun Kumar claiming seven wickets between them, bowled out Eagle for 131. Pursuing 182 for the lead, Eagle had resumed at 93 for five at the ICL-Guru Nanak ground. Off-spinning all-rounder R. Ashwin followed up his century with a five-wicket innings haul as Jolly Rovers dismissed Young Stars for 78, picking the final wicket with the first delivery of the day. Following on 248 runs behind, Young Stars was zero for one, when inclement weather ended the contest at the IIT-Chemplast ground. Alwarpet, six without loss overnight, required 80 more runs in 18 overs for the lead over IOB when play resumed at 4 p.m. at MAC. After V. Subramina Siva (34, 27b, 2x6, 2x4) and Maruti Raghav (22 not out) added 44 in 30 balls for the fourth wicket, Alwarpet reached its target in the 14th over of the day, with six wickets remaining. Inclement weather washed out play at the SRMC, CPT-IP and the MRF-Pachaiyappa’s grounds. The scores: At MAC: IOB 85 drew with Alwarpet 86 for four in 19.4 overs. Alwarpet 5; IOB 2. At ICL-Guru Nanak: Grand Slam 181 drew with Eagle 131 in 48 overs (V. Arun Kumar four for 26). Grand Slam 5; Eagle 2.
