MCC-S.A. Faheem Memorial invitation tournament from today

CHENNAI: The MCC-S.A. Faheem Memorial invitation snooker tournament will be held at the Madras Cricket Club premises between August 1 and 7.

Announcing this at a press conference at the MCC on Monday, the club’s snooker captain M.C. Manoj said that the tournament would feature some of the State’s best players, including Rafath Habib, S.A. Saleem (Faheem’s brother) and Siddharth Rao.

“S.A. Faheem, who passed away last year on July 4, was one of our most talented players,” Manoj said. “We will make this an annual event, such that either the start or finish will coincide to mark Faheem’s anniversary.”

Round-robin league

The round-robin league will be a best of five frames affair. The tournament winner will receive Rs. 10,000 in prize money. Rather unusually, the first century break during the tournament will also earn Rs. 10,000, with every subsequent century break being awarded Rs. 5,000.

The matches will start daily at 10 a.m.

Karthik claims five

B. Karthik claimed five for 18 as Jawahar Vidyalaya ‘A’ defeated Devi Academy by 133 runs in the TNCA city schools under-15 cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

Modern SSS ‘B’ 108 for six in 25 overs (S. Ullas Kumar 36 not out, S. Siddarth three for 17) lost to Sir Sivaswamy Kalyana SSS 109 for nine in 23.1 overs (L. Karthik 37 not out, K.V. Raghavan three for 15).

The Hindu SSS 169 for seven in 30 overs (Lincey Thomas 80 not out, Laxmi Narayanan 26, J. Nishant three for 43) bt PS HSS 95 in 25.4 overs (Ashwin three for 12).

Government HSS ‘A’ (Pudur) 184 for six in 30 overs (Velliyangiri 51 not out, K.G. Chiranjeevi 27, Vasudevan 41) bt Asan Memorial 112 in 25.3 overs (Karthik 41, Azharuddin four for 13).

Chinmaya Vidyalaya 115 in 23.3 overs (Kishore Raj four for 22) bt St. Mary’s ‘A’ 114 for nine in 30 overs (Princely 54).

Jawahar Vidyalaya ‘A’ 167 in 29.4 overs (N. Manikandan four for 47) bt Devi Academy 34 in 10.3 overs (U. Pawan four for 10, B. Karthik five for 18).

National Public School 142 in 24.5 overs (A. Senthil Kumaran 26, G. Gowtham 25, U. Chandramoulee three for 24) bt St. Mary’s ‘B’ 55 in 17.4 overs (Magesh Narayan four for seven).
